Introduction to LEA

Choosing to study LEA in Metz means above all choosing a multidisciplinary education. Its classes focus on two main directions (foreign languages and business) and prepare students for active life.

Students who want to study in LEA have to have good skills in English (compulsory language) and in at least one of the following languages: German, Italian, Spanish and Chinese. From the first year, you will have the possibility of studying a third language chosen from a wide range of languages: Spanish, Dutch, Chinese, German, Italian, Swedish and Japanese. The tuition of languages includes tutorials of economic translation (French into the foreign language and visa versa), oral communication, civilization and also tools for business communication (writing and translating letters).

Throughout the degree, business also has a significant place in the lectures students will take: among other things management, economy and law, in order to prepare the student for working in the world of business, because as the teachers often say, LEA is a degree teaching pre-vocational skills. You will find more details about lectures (hours and credits) by referring to the maquette section at the bottom of page.

The third year of the degree includes an internship in a company or an ERASMUS semester in a foreign country. You will find more details about internships here.

A specialization is put into place from the 3rd year of the degree. You can choose between a Specialized Translation course leading to the Master in Foreign Languages and Modern Tools for Translation (LEOM) which will train you for translation-related jobs; and Business and Trade leading to the Master in International Business allowing you to start a career in the business world.

You will find more details about the options in the section dedicated to each Master.
